This unit will help the student understand major depressive disorder and the impact this has on the person in the community.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Learning objectives:

At the end of this module participants will be able to:
describe depression, specifically major depressive disorder
understand the impact depression has on the person
identify potential causes and pathophysiology of depression
know the diagnostic criteria for depression and be able to recognise common symptoms
understand the general principles of a mental health assessment and risk assessment, and how to identify depression during routing health interactions
feel confident in referring clients with suspected depression on for further assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
